JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. (420CanNews) —  The cannabis revolution is blazing even in the fashion world. It has taken a while for hemp to get its well-deserved spotlight in high fashion, but better late than never, right?

Prominent fashion designers such as Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren have embraced hemp in their creations, showcasing their commitment to sustainability and innovation. They’ve taken inspiration and decided hemp fabric is the real deal. The same plant that used to raise eyebrows is now weaving its magic. Hemp is remarkably transitioning from the underground to the mainstream, shattering the old, “hippie” stigma with confidence and flair.

Hemp’s Resurgence and Influence

People have used the OG crop since the 1600s to make ropes, sails, and clothing. In an unexpected turn, cotton and synthetic fibers emerged onto the textile stage, overshadowing the once-prominent hemp. It resembled a classic underdog story, with hemp graciously fading into the background as the new contenders claimed the spotlight. However, hemp’s downfall came with the passage of the Controlled Substances Act of 1970, where it found itself unjustly associated with marijuana, its botanical relative. They falsely grouped them as if they belonged to some intoxicating plant society.

In 2018, hemp fashion underwent a remarkable transformation. The passing of the Farm Bill felt like a resounding endorsement that encouraged hemp cultivation. Calvin Klein, the fashion powerhouse, embraced the cosmic vibes that year. They boldly showcased a collection inspired by cannabis on the New York Fashion Week runway. Who needs roses when they can adorn their threads with marijuana leaves?

High Fashion To New Heights

Cannabis is not content to remain on the sidelines – it is forging its way into the realm of fashionistas. Fashion events and parties are ditching stuffy venues in favor of relaxed marijuana lounges. In 2019, luxury giant Louis Vuitton pulled out all the stops with a cannabis-themed extravaganza in a chic Los Angeles cannabis lounge. It was a dazzling fusion of high fashion and pure enjoyment, featuring live music, an abundance of art, and the crème de la crème of the fashion world in attendance. The use of hemp fabric is even infiltrating the world of haute couture, proving that style and good vibes can intertwine harmoniously.

Designers increasingly use hemp in their collections, with Mara Hoffman and Bethany Williams leading the way. Hoffman has incorporated hemp into a wide range of garments, while Williams combines hemp with recycled cotton in her  2022 collection for a sustainable and innovative touch.

The Eco-Friendly Alternative

Opting for hemp fabric is more than a mere fashion statement; it’s eco-friendly.  According to a 2020 survey conducted by McKinsey & Company, an impressive 67% of individuals prioritize using sustainable materials. Even more intriguing is that 63% actively support brands that proudly demonstrate their commitment to sustainability.

Consumers are flexing their green muscles, compelling the fashion industry to confront its impact on our cherished Earth. And here comes the hemp clothing, walking in with a smokin’ style. Hemp, the epitome of eco friendly labels and water efficiency, emerges as the heroic savior of crops, bolstering sustainability for future generations. Because, well, high fashion deserves a nod too.
