NEW YORK – In remembrance of individuals who participated in the Stonewall Riots, an energetic and enthusiastic series of LGBTQIA+ Pride Month activities are happening worldwide, including parades, festivals, and concerts. But the underlying goal is not just to party and have fun, it’s to create a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community free from prejudice while enjoying Pride Month.
Brenda Howard, an activist who is bisexual, is primarily credited with founding Pride Month. Brenda, often known as “The Mother of Pride,” planned the Christopher Street Liberation Day Parade and Gay Pride Week a year after the Stonewall Riots. The event evolved into the New York City Pride March and was the impetus for comparable parades and marches worldwide.
Similarly, Dennis Peron, a California resident who was openly gay and a former Air Force officer, had been working to legalize marijuana long before the AIDS pandemic. It all started when Jonathan West, Peron’s lover, died of AIDS. Cannabis made his final months easier, and Peron was inspired to spread the word about cannabis’ beneficial effects. He founded a cannabis buyers club when AIDS first emerged to get cannabis into the hands of as many afflicted people as possible. This paved the way for a strong cannabis community for LGBTQIA+ worldwide, encapsulated in Proposition 215.
Today, celebrating Pride Month has evolved in a myriad of ways. Here are the top 5 LGBTQIA+ Pride Month activities.
- In its purest form, art is a form of self-expression, so LGBTQIA+ people frequently use the arts as a safe space to explore and question their sexuality, gender identity, and sense of self. Queer art has been depicted in various ways for hundreds of years, from ancient Greek to contemporary art. Though LGBTQIA+ rights have advanced more in the past 30 years than in centuries, there is still a long way to go until the acceptance of LGBTQIA+ individuals is comprehensive and widespread.
The queer art movement experienced a huge upsurge in the 20th century, with an increase in the number of artists addressing LGBTQIA+ issues in their works. While the necessity to hide one’s ‘identity’ influenced queer art in the initial decades of the century, works fighting for visibility, justice, and growing acceptance predominated in the latter half.
An LGBTQIA+ that a paint party inspires can be relaxing and fun, particularly after a hard week. LGBTQIA+ art, often known as queer aesthetics, refers to modern and contemporary visual art techniques that incorporate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and other non-heterosexual, non-cisgender imagery and concerns.
- Another example of Pride Month activities to try is sipping colorful drinks. Cocktails in rainbow colors are another excellent idea for making wonderful, eye-catching summer mojitos with premium liquor. These colorful cocktails commemorate the natural world and the joy it offers. Each sip of a Rainbow Cocktail is like in weed travels and exciting rainbow color adventure, with each hue offering a distinct flavor and experience.
- With rainbow desserts, the classic Pride flag is the cherry atop a celebratory dinner. Creating rainbow desserts by making lovely and delectable cupcakes, cookies, or other baked goods is a fun way to celebrate the Pride tribe. For 420 enthusiasts, adding weed to the recipe may add an extra kick.
- Creating an LGBTQIA+ care package for 420 stoner friends is another idea. A package of treats for Pride Month is a way to recognize how far the LGBTQIA+ community has come. It is the ideal way to enjoy gay pride with a special someone! It is a lovely gift for a coming-out celebration.
When a transgender person comes out, knowing how to react and say the proper things can be challenging. This care package ensures that the right pronouns and other terminology are used while placing an order. The package’s objectives are to give the receiver a useful tool to aid their transition, clothing supporting their identity, and a chance to exchange encouraging words.
- Finally, consider helping out an LGBTQIA+ organization. It’s a wonderful moment to discuss how we can promote representation and allyship throughout the year, especially in philanthropy and donating, as the nation approaches the end of Pride 2023.
Many excellent groups work hard to support LGBTQIA+ concerns. They need funding, volunteers, and donations. Celebrate Pride Month and look at organizations fighting prejudice, advancing equality, and more for the LGBTQIA+ community.
To Sum It Up
Pride Month is about acknowledging and celebrating everyday milestones, both big and small. While rainbows and glitter may attract your attention, Pride Month is a time to celebrate the previous 50 years of progress while calling for greater equality, visibility, and inclusivity for the LGBTQIA+ community.
As Lady Gaga puts it, “This community has fought and continues to fight a war of acceptance, a war of tolerance, and the most relentless bravery. You are the definition of courage; do you know that?”
The LGBTQIA+ community’s beautiful identities are joyfully celebrated with the most fun Pride Month activities. Never forget that the Stonewall riots served as inspiration for Pride. At Stonewall, they didn’t back down. Members of the LGBTQIA+ community are still fighting today and will continue to do so until they have absolute independence, liberty, joy, and pride.
